Obesity is a symptom that leads to many other diseases. The first sign of obesity is the weight increase followed by loss of shape of body due to accumulation of fat. This way the body becomes imbalanced. A person with obesity has to exert more for simple movements like walking or sitting up after lying. This leads to less activity and further weight increase. The body weight has to be controlled and be within the height weight ratio chart. If the weight is within 10% then the person is not obese. Exceeding the 10% limit makes a person obese.

Now it is a fact that weight increase does not happen overnight. It is gradual and we ignore it initially. But slowly this leads to less physical activity and then diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and heart issues. So body weight needs to be controlled. How to do it? The key is to increase the metabolism slowly by decreasing the diet and increasing the physical activity. Weight increases when we spend less energy than we intake as food. The first step is to control the diet and bring it below the daily energy requirement which is measured in calories.

Weight can also increase due to digestive problems. Blood absorbs the useful part of the food and discards the rest through excretory system. When there is a problem in the digestive process fat can accumulate. Just by curing the digestive problem half the problem of obesity can be reduced.


The endocrine gland controls most of the chemical activity in our body. The dysfunction of this gland can also lead to abnormal weight gain. The most strain is found in women during and after childbirth and during menopause. Extra care needs to be taken during these times. Nervous system problems can also be the cause of obesity.
